Mike Morrison argues that the standard poster format has outgrown its usefulness. Its weakness stems from attempting to be a simulacra of an IMRAD paper. To do this, so much is crammed into the limited poster space, creating what’s known as the “wall of text,” which does not effectively communicate information. It’s a stagnant form that has not evolved much over decades, and most people experience it as unintelligible noise.
